Our February selection is the Pulitzer Prize winning “Master Slave Husband Wife” by Ilyon Woo. “Master Slave Husband Wife” tells the true story of the escape of Ellen and William Craft, two 19th-century American abolitionists, from slavery. Ellen and William were an enslaved couple who escaped from Georgia in 1848. Since Ellen was light-skinned, she was able to disguise herself as a disabled white gentleman with William as her manservant.
