We were thrilled to host SPF High School science teacher Zach Rittner at our January meeting, where he spoke about the annual Great Backyard Bird Count and how we could collect data for ornithologists. The Bird Watch runs from February 13th to February 16th, 2026. Mr. Rittner presented interesting facts in an entertaining manner, answered questions easily, and encouraged us to participate in environmental efforts and issues.
He also recognized Marie Leppert with the certificate signed by the high school Environmental Club. It meant a lot to Marie, our longest-serving College Club member and our dear friend.
Mr. Rittner received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Union College in Schenectady,
N.Y., his Master of Arts in Teaching at Montclair State University, and a Master of Science in
Environmental Science from Montana State University. We hope he’ll return with another informative talk soon!
