President’s Message May 2024

 Jean Naugle and Joan Skubish

We are grateful for every member’s contributions of their donations and time in preparation before or on the day of the event. We do not have a final accounting, but we may have raised close to $19,000 to add to the scholarship fund. We must pause for a moment and feel the joy that comes from working together to create a successful fundraiser and also the satisfaction of knowing that the young women who will receive our scholarships will be able to attend the college of their choice to pursue their hopes and dreams for their futures.

We celebrate the success of our Spring fundraiser because of the dedication of each College Club member. Joan Skubish and Pat Swick guided the preparations and our theme of “April in Paris.” The ballroom at The Westwood looked lovely and Spring-like and the gifts were stunning.

We look forward to seeing you for two dates in May. Come to Fanwood Presbyterian Church on Monday, May 13th for the general meeting. Bring your money or checkbook to sign up for the scholarship dinner and to meet the scholarship recipients on Tuesday, May 21st at the Shady Rest Country Club.  Please read the newsletter article with details on how you can attend College Club’s culminating event of the year. The scholarship dinner is a special night for us to meet the recipients, listen to their stories and learn about their college plans. Thank you to Laurie Chichester for planning and coordinating the dinner which we know will be a wonderful evening and which brings full circle our work and its reward. (See page 6 for the reservation form you can return with your check.

Speaking of scholarships, the Scholarship Committee has finished its review of the scholarship applications and has interviewed the candidates to finalize our 2024-2025 scholarship recipients. Our thanks go to Chair Tish Isack and committee members Tricia Aiere, Elaine Carman, Rosemary Gousman, Dorothy Lusk, Joanne Sheffield, and Sue Spirko for the many hours involved in choosing the scholarship recipients and for their dedication to this important committee.

The initial work on our other major fundraiser, the Community Calendar, has begun under Chair Mari McDevitt. Please contact Mari if you can assist with any aspect of the calendar—advertising sales, checking organizations’ information and dates, proofreading, sales and/or distribution, etc. Work on the calendar will continue during the summer and assistance is needed in all areas. This is the 61st year of the Community Calendar!
