President’s Message

Jean Naugle and Joan Skubish

Happy New Year to you and yours!  Whether you stayed close to home or traveled far, sharing time with family and friends is what the Holidays are all about. We hope you had the happiest of Holidays!

We had about a dozen members (and a few guests) at our Holiday party on December 3rd at the Stage House Inn. Thanks to Mari McDevitt for arranging the party for a second year and for an afternoon of fun and camaraderie.

Thinking about the New Year reminds us of a quote from the British poet, author and playwright, Edith Lovejoy Pierce—“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity, and its first chapter is ‘New Year’s Day.’”

As 2024 begins, we approach the New Year with fresh eyes and with enthusiasm. What will this New Year bring? What will we bring to this New Year?

Our general meeting and program will be January 22nd via zoom.  Jean will send the Zoom link so please email her and encourage others to attend so the link can be sent directly to each person.  Begin considering ways you can support the next major fundraiser on April 28th—our Spring Event at The Westwood in Garwood. We will once again need guests to attend, gift baskets, presale of the 3 prize 50/50 and Shop Rite raffles (just to name a few).

Take time out of your busy life (or convince yourself to leave that warm and cozy place on your sofa) and join us at one of the many programs and events planned over the next few months. Connect or reconnect with your fellow College Club members and remember how effective we can be when we all work together. We hope to see many of you at our January 22nd Zoom meeting as the New Year begins and the possibilities abound!

NOTE:  PLEASE READ article regarding a proposed change to the CC by Laws, which will be voted upon at the February 12th meeting!

Proposed Change to College Club By Laws, Article IV, Section 2:

Change to last sentence of this article and section:—“The Nominating Committee shall present a slate of officers at the general meeting two weeks prior to the annual meeting in May.”

Explanation: This change will give the Nominating Committee additional time to select officers for the Board. In this era of email, communication is much quicker than the printed newsletter, which had been sent by post and was the only means of communicating to the membership at the time the By Laws were written.

A vote will be taken at the February General Meeting on February 12th.
